Support Cathedral Square For #GivingTuesday

#GivingTuesday is an opportunity for you to help improve your community by supporting local organizations and we hope that Cathedral Square Friends, Inc. will be on your list.

Thanks to our many supporters, Cathedral Square looks better than at any time in recent memory.

In 2018, through our Color the Square initiative, we hung flower baskets from eight poles in the square. Each pole was decorated with two baskets that throughout the summer were overflowing with colorful flowers and plants.

Every year since 2018, we have brought the hanging flower baskets back to the Square, with some years having as many as thirty baskets.

This sponsor-funded project delights visitors to the Square every year.

Recently, major changes to the perimeter of the Square were completed. These changes include a beautiful new sidewalk extending from the edges of the park to the curbs. New trees, benches, bike racks, flower beds, garbage cans and other enhancements were also added to the Square.

To augment these wonderful changes, we are continuing our Color the Square initiative. With your help we can once again bring these colorful flowers to the Square and maintain these new improvements.

On this #GivingTuesday, will you make a small donation to support our efforts?

Help Fill Cathedral Square With Flowers

Cathedral Square’s sparkling necklace of wide, paved sidewalks, bike racks, benches, waste containers, and trees is officially complete. The tree wells include plantings and so do the corners of the park at Wells and Jefferson and Wells and Jackson streets.

The 2024 version of Cathedral Square Friends’ Color the Square program will include the traditional hanging flower baskets, which are alive with color and add so much to the beauty of the Square. The program also includes the maintenance of the perennial plantings in the tree wells, landscaping at the Wells Street corners and maintenance of other improvements, adding more color and splendor to the Square.

We thank previous sponsors for supporting the flower basket program. However, we will need more sponsors and more donors to make the 2024 season a complete success. That’s where you come in. Consider a sponsorship at one of five different levels from $100 to $1900 to bring vibrant living color to the Square. Make a commitment before the end of February to secure a spot as one of this year’s supporters!

Thousands of people were drawn to the Square for Jazz in the Park, Bastille Days and Milwaukee Oktoberfest in 2023, and thousands more play on the playset, visit the farmers market, join in aerobics, eat their lunches, play games, and otherwise enjoy Milwaukee’s oldest park. Color the Square makes their visit even more pleasurable.

Cathedral Square – The Year in Review

During the winter months, Cathedral Square was brightened by “Lightfield” by HYBYCOZO. Summer saw Jazz in the Park and Bastille Days staged as they were before the pandemic. On Sunday mornings, the park was the site of the Cathedral Square Market as well as popular yoga classes. Autumn brought a very successful October Fest. Throughout the year, Cathedral Square hosted many visitors to its playset, park benches, and picnic tables. Its open grassy area brought people who played all sorts of games there.

Sponsors of Cathedral Square Friends have again enabled the placement of hanging flower baskets throughout the park. Over one hundred supporters attended the Friends’ fundraiser at the rooftop of the Ascent MKE. This helps the Friends maintain the trees, plants, and other landscaping in Cathedral Square.

A major improvement saw the old, crumbling fountain basin removed from the center of the park. That area and the surrounding walkways were resurfaced just in time for the 25th annual Milwaukee Holiday Lights Festival, which runs through the end of the year.

Cathedral Square has seen many improvements in recent years and continues to be a center of activity in Milwaukee.

You can help Cathedral Square Friends build on that success and ensure the continued vitality of Cathedral Square.

Help Fill Cathedral Square With Flowers

Winter is here but we are already looking forward to next summer when Cathedral Square will be bursting with color in its new surroundings. The inconvenience of the construction will be in the rearview mirror and the new pavers, trees, bike racks, and waste baskets, all part of the Frame the Square project, will make their welcome appearance.

To make the square even more attractive, an expanded Color the Square program will bring the park alive with color by placing two flower baskets brimming with flowers on all the light poles inside and outside the square. We thank previous sponsors for supporting the flower basket program. However, we will need more sponsors and more donors to make the 2022 season a complete success.

That’s where you come in! Consider a sponsorship at one of five different levels from $100 to $1800 to bring vibrant living color to the Square! Make a commitment before the end of February to secure a spot as one of this year’s supporters!

We don’t know when Jazz in the Park or Bastille Days will return, but we do know that thousands of people will play on the playset, visit the farmers market, join in aerobics, eat their lunches, play games, and otherwise enjoy Milwaukee’s oldest park.
