New Sod for Cathedral Square

The barren stretch of lawn at the north edge of Cathedral Square has been replaced with new sod. The northern edge had become mostly, sand, stones, and weeds and was in need of care (as seen in the before photo above).

The improvement is the result of the combined efforts of various entities.

Twelve organizations, including Cathedral Square Friends, took part in PARK(ing) Day on Friday September 21st by turning parking spaces into small public parks, lounges or even pop-up markets. These spaces utilized sod donated by the Downtown Business Improvement District #21 and Kujawa Enterprises, Inc. to create the small parks. The sod was later donated to Cathedral Square. The Milwaukee County Parks Department prepared the site by removing several inches of old debris and filling it with topsoil. Kujawa Enterprises, Inc. installed the new sod and has been watering it until it “takes hold,” thanks to the Cathedral Square Friends and their donors. The entire effort was facilitated by the East Town Association and the square is looking great.
