As autumn has arrived, the temperature has dropped, the leaves are falling, and the flower baskets have long since come down. It’s time we look back on the 2019 summer season at Cathedral Square.
Once again, we held our Annual Meeting at Taylor’s at the end of May. This event continues to serve as a fundraiser for Cathedral Square Friends and the kickoff to the summer season. The raffle brought almost $1,200, which helped us to expand Color the Square by paying for additional hanging flower baskets. The public also got to see early images of possible improvements to Cathedral Square. We continue to reach out to neighborhood stakeholders for feedback and support.
Just prior to Jazz in the Park got underway our baskets went up in the square, adding a punch of color and vibrancy to our ever-improving public place. This year Cathedral Square Friends, with your help, was able to bump up the number of hanging flower baskets from 16 to 22, and we hope to expand on that in 2020. These bold and bright flower baskets received numerous compliments from square users and people passing by, including riders on The Hop.
In addition to the baskets, this year saw Milwaukee County wrapping up the installation of a new playground in Cathedral Square, which has seen significant use and brought families from near and far to enjoy the Square.
